Security Council Press Statement on Situation between Iraq and Kuwait
The following Security Council press statement was issued on 1 December by Council President Mohammed Loulichki (Morocco):
The members of the Security Council welcomed the continued cooperation of the Governments of Iraq and Kuwait, and Iraq’s continued commitment to full implementation of its outstanding obligations under the relevant Chapter VII Security Council resolutions, and called on both States to continue to act in a spirit that builds further confidence and cooperation, which should contribute to the strengthening of their good neighbourly relations and enhancing regional stability.
The members of the Security Council reaffirmed the importance of Iraq achieving international standing equal to that which it held prior to the adoption of resolutions pertaining specifically to it, beginning with resolution 661 (1990), taking into account Iraq’s remaining obligations identified in the report of the Secretary-General pursuant to paragraph 5 of resolution 1859 (2008).
The members of the Security Council further welcomed the joint request of the Governments of Iraq and Kuwait, following the positive outcome of the second session of the Joint Iraq-Kuwait Ministerial Committee in April, for the United Nations to reactivate the Iraq-Kuwait Boundary Maintenance Project as recommended by the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Boundary Demarcation Commission and welcomed by the Security Council in resolution 833 (1993).
The members of the Security Council recognized Kuwait’s cooperation to support the Iraq-Kuwait Boundary Maintenance Project and called on Iraq to complete the field maintenance work in a timely manner.

Consejo de Seguridad de Prensa Declaración sobre la situación entre el Iraq y Kuwait
El siguiente comunicado de prensa del Consejo de Seguridad se emitió el 1 de diciembre por el presidente del Consejo Mohammed Loulichki (Marruecos):
Los miembros del Consejo de Seguridad acogió con beneplácito la cooperación constante entre los Gobiernos del Iraq y Kuwait, y el continuo compromiso de Irak para la plena aplicación de las obligaciones pendientes en virtud de los correspondientes Capítulo resoluciones VII del Consejo de Seguridad, y pidió a ambos Estados a seguir actuando con un espíritu que construye aún más la confianza y la cooperación, que debe contribuir al fortalecimiento de las relaciones de buena vecindad y la mejora de la estabilidad regional.
Los miembros del Consejo de Seguridad reafirmó la importancia de Iraq alcanzar prestigio internacional igual a la que se celebró antes de la adopción de las resoluciones relativas específicamente a él, a partir de la resolución 661 (1990), teniendo en cuenta las obligaciones restantes de Irak identificadas en el informe de el Secretario General de conformidad con el párrafo 5 de la resolución 1859 (2008).
Los miembros del Consejo de Seguridad ha celebrado asimismo la petición conjunta de los Gobiernos de Irak y Kuwait, tras el resultado positivo de la segunda reunión del Comité Conjunto para el Iraq y Kuwait Ministerial en abril, para las Naciones Unidas para reactivar el mantenimiento Frontera entre el Iraq y Kuwait Proyecto según lo recomendado por las Naciones Unidas para el Iraq y Kuwait Comisión de Demarcación de Límites y acogida por el Consejo de Seguridad en su resolución 833 (1993).
Los miembros del Consejo de Seguridad reconoció la cooperación de Kuwait para apoyar el Proyecto Frontera entre el Iraq y Kuwait Mantenimiento e instó a Irak a completar los trabajos de mantenimiento de campo en tiempo y forma.
